Halloween Alaska

Halloween, Alaska has nothing to do with either Halloween, or Alaska, nor is there a city in Alaska called Halloween. And just like their name that I can't explain, so goes their sound. While mostly melancholy their sound ranges from Guided By Voices to Sun Kil Moon and some mix of Peter Gabriel.

I like to read what others write when talking about a album and a lot of the time I get some interesting insight into the band, but this time there were the oddest comparison's to bands that I don't even want to mention because it will be too damaging and might turn you off. Just know this - the band is from Minneapolis, the songs are smart, light and best while relaxing or working away - this is not your get ready to go out and go clubbing, music.

Halloween A Week Early

I have never been much for Halloween. Only when I was in elementary school with a obsession over Madonna (who wasn't?) was I able to put together a great outfit. I'm no good at the "scary" or terribly "sexy" costumes, but Madonna has always been a good fit for me - music lover and fashionably fun.

This year, with a party looming I went and bought multiple wigs and contemplating going as Madonna again...although a little bit more sexy than my 2nd grade costume. Then I thought maybe I would go as Olive Oil, then a hippy with the feather roach clip hair accessories....but alas I combined my wardrobe and wigs and put together my ultimate costume. More of a character role rather than costume per se - but still a costume. I went as Cynthia Dunn, Marissa Ribisi's role in Dazed & Confused. Did I pull it off?

The party I was at had paparazi - here is video:
