Oh My Mama, Alela Diane

McCabes seems an unlikely place to see a concert, but it just might be the hidden gem that folk fans are keeping to themselves. With a history of shows that include Tom Waits, Beck, T-Bone Burnett, Joni Mitchell, M.Ward, P Harvey, Jackson Browne, etc etc and the subject of this post Alela Diane have all graced the back room with filled with folding chairs and walls filled decorated by expensive and unique guitars of all shapes and sizes.

Twenty-six year old Alela Diane has a soulful yet haunting voice that kept the audience captivated and wanting more. I haven't been that entranced by a show in a very long time. Touring with her father on guitar (many, many types of guitars and accompanied on harmony). His look and vibe resembled that of Tom Petty's - it was as if Tom Petty's daughter became a Folk artist and he went on to perform with her, and it was a quite lovely to watch.

Ending with Oh My Mama in honor of Mother's Day was a magical closing to her show.
