Heat : The Explorer's Club & Lightspeed Champion

On the first hot day of the New York summer it took us an hour to get from the West Village back to the Bowery...or was it that it was so hot that our bodies felt like an hour passed? Being from the valley, the summer heat is something I am conditioned to - but New York really does get that heavy muggy heat. Well...I thought it would cool by evening but it stayed just as hot as it was during the day....which like LA weather affects NY crowds. In LA, when it rains the crowd is much smaller. People would rather not drive...and well - in NY, when it's sticky and hot no one really wants to bother walking to a show. I would think they would run to a show knowing there is free AC and cold drinks. But...oh well.

The first show of the night was The Explorer's Club. I posted about them on 3.08.08. What I love about them is their Beach Boys sound...cause there is no denying their desire to be them. What I didn't expect was the hodge podge look of their band. If you take a look at the band...they sort of resemble the Muppet Band. They all look like characters. Is that good? Is that bad? I don't know - but I think I may have liked to have kept them in my mind as looking more like the Beach Boys if you know what I mean.

The Second show that we watched (cause we took a break to go have a drink downstairs) was Lightspeed Champion. I posted about them on 11.1.07. The crowd was bigger at this point but still much less than what it should have been because of the heat. Again....have people thought about the nice free air condition? Dev was great. He was trying to connect with the audience chatting them up and talking about their experience on the Conan O'brien show the night before with Kim Cattrall. He was what I expected, light and fun and I enjoyed every moment about it.
