The Builders & The Butchers are not your average band. All of their songs are written around death, or as they have said, funeral songs. Originally from Alaska, singer Ryan Sollee sounds alot like Colin Meloy from the Decemberists. It's undeniable...but their songs couldn't be more different. The Builders & Butchers songs sound like old mountain music. Old folk ballads sung in the mountains in the 1800's. Sollee was inspired by old country and blues, but I hear pure mountain blue grass....ya know - swampy, dirty music with beer flowing endlessly into frosty mugs. Can't you see it? The track Vampire Lake could even be a great replacement for the opening theme song in True Blood.
