Wednesday, May 20th, I was invited with some friends to go see Ben Folds. My friend a fan since his college days in North Carolina, where Ben formed the band Ben Folds Five, thought it would be fun to go relive some of those days. I never really did get into Ben Folds for no reason other than....I just had other things playing around me - but I went to the show with a open mind and wondering if I would join the Ben Folds Fanclub after.
I had really only known his song Brick and You Don't Know Me...or so I thought when I got to the show - but surprisingly I knew others. You know when you start singing along to songs and go, where in my brain was that hiding? Well, it happened to me. His song You Don't Know Me that he sings with Regina Spektor on the album, was sung with Sara Bareilles at the Palladium.
I couldn't help but hear MAJOR comparisons to Elton John (he even looks like Elton John from the 70's, minus the crazy wardrobe), and Elvis Costello. His band was a site to see. It looked like he kidnapped his high school band class and put them on stage. Nerds. I love nerds...really I do. But OMG - they really are band geeks. Hey, band geeks can be rock stars, right?
