Becky Stark : Lavendar Diamond

The first time I saw Lavendar Diamond, they were opening for The New Pornagraphers at The Henry Fonda theatre. I was upset because I only caught the last song of their perfomance and missed "Open Your Heart", my favorite of their tracks.

Last night I saw them open for She & Him at The Wiltern...and um, I'm so glad I saw them do "Open Your Heart" this time around, but it was so hippy-fied that I sorta went cookoo and had to walk out after 4 of their songs.

Becky Stark, the leader of Lavendar Diamond is a saint. A happy little flower that belongs in SF with all the other flower children who love to go on about rainbows and unicorns - the difference is hers comes across as some kind of old timer church music. Yeah. I felt like I was in that scene in "O Brother, Where Art Thou" at the state fair with the singers. I realllly loved that movie and the soundtrack, but the way it came across with her arms swaying in the air and side steps, made me feel like she was trying to spread some christian religious themes to the audience. Not bad - just not really me.

From her website:
remember:
today is the best day for falling in love with the world.
this is the most beautiful world in the universe!
let's protect it with every move we make!
and every step we take is full of love!
be sure to change your relationship to nature-
it's the easiest way into the true heaven-
because earth is our home,
don't ever forget!
may songs and blessings follow you everywhere-
love,
peace!
-becky

And good for her - spreading love and sunshine and pink bunnies. Someone should. It's just not gonna be me. She is also co-author of the Peace Comics.
