Sometimes when you go see a headliner you are lucky enough to be introduced to a singer you may never heave heard of...and last night was one of those nights. Opening and touring with Sondre Lerche, was Sylvie Lewis.
Sylvie Lewis, was born in Los Angeles, raised in London and lived in Italy for a few years....but she is back with tales of her travels and the funny things Italians do...like throwing tomatos.
I came in mid set to her folk sings, and heard her perform a song with a yukalalee. One of the best parts of her solo performance was her stage performance. I absolutely love and applaud performers when they interact with the audience. Thank you! If I wanted to hear you play your songs and leave the stage, I would have watched a youtube performance or put the cd on while I clean up around the house. Thank you Sylvie. Check out her singing "By Heart". She is so made up in this video - don't pay attention to that but her vocals....she is a natural beauty with life to her.

Apparently Sondre comes from the same school as Sylvie does...The Norwegian singer provided anecdotes and comic relief to his set. Premiering some new unreleased tracks and promoting the sale of his merchandise, t-shirts specifically, with art work of song titles yet to be released. Badumb bump. Which came first, the shirt or the song? His hope is that the shirts gain such popularity that the songs take off. Ha.

Both SL's had acoustic sets, which usually is so intimidating - on stage solo with a audience gawking and taking photos, but they were so at ease.

Sylvie joined Sondre for a duet from his "Dan In Real Life" soundtrack, and he performed a song they did together on one of her albums "New York". There was such admiration on both acounts for eachother and their performances were that much better for it.
I've been a fan of Sondre Lerche's since I was introduced to his Two Way Monologue album in 2004.....and while his newer tracks are more loungy and slower, they are so lush and silky - if you don't already have any of his albums...please go and get one...in the meantime download some of his tracks from his Daytrotter sessions.
